Emotional Intelligence is about perceiving ours and others emotions, understanding them and use in
our thought and action. Academic Achievement is strongly connected to the development of
students in general in shaping the child's cognitive, emotional, social and physical abilities. English
which is the second language can be followed by most of the people in the world. It is the main
language for studying any subject all over the world. English is important for students as it broadens
their minds, develops emotional skills, critical thinking, speaking, and writing. Normative Survey
method was adopted in the present study. Random sampling method is used for collecting the data.
Data were collected from One hundred and fifty, seventh standard students of Chennai
District.Results reveal that there is significant and positive correlation among the dimensions of
emotional intelligence and academic achievement in English of the high school students. Moreover,
demographic variables like gender, father’s educational qualification and monthly income of the
family have contributed to the present study. Educational implications were discussed in this study.
