The education system should think about new ways for learners to develop in line with this so-called information and knowledge society because 21st century students currently need competencies that enable them to adapt to a new type of individual information and individual knowledge relationship. So-called digital competency is one of particular relevance. Digital competences were characterized in the present research as, (a) Information and Data literacy (b) the Communication and Collaboration. (c) Digital content creation (d) Safety (e) Problem solving. This article presents the results of a research study to determine the influence that the variables of medium of instruction, locality, stream of degree have on the acquisition of digital competence by pre-service educators, with a sample of 150 student’s teachers from different education colleges from the Tiruvannamalai District. A detailed analysis of the survey questionnaire replies provided to 150 prospective teachers has been done, and conclusions have been made. According to the results, there are considerable disparities in prospective teachers' total digital competence depending on their medium of instruction, locality and stream of subject.
