Abstract

Modeling and control of bidirectional dual active bridge DC–DC converter becomes an important issue as they are extensively used in electric vehicle applications. This work deals with design and simulation of closed loop isolated bidirectional dual active bridge DC–DC converter system with current mode control and in addition, cascade filter is implemented to reduce the ripples. The aim of this work is to improve the dynamic response of the closed loop bidirectional dual active bridge DC–DC converter system with two-loop current mode control. Current mode control can be used to improve the output voltage of the bidirectional dual active bridge DC–DC converter system. The proposed converter is initially modeled and simulated with PI–PI controller and latter with PR–PR controller. The dynamic response obtained from the two controllers is analyzed and compared. The results indicate that the dynamic response of the proposed converter is improved by using CM-PR–PR controller. The proposed converter has advantages like reduced “settling time” and “steady state error.”
