Abstract

The self organized nature of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) makes the task of data collection a more challenging issue due to the limited bandwidth and energy in the network. Therefore, ensuring smooth collection of data by the sink node in WSN makes the network more complicated and hence compromises the network lifetime. With the aim of minimizing the energy consumption during data transmission and therefore increase the network lifetime, an Energy-efficient Spanning-Tree and Spatial Association-based Data Collection (EST-SADA) is designed. The EST-SADA EST-SADA first performs Energy-efficient Spanning-Tree based Initialization with the highest energy being assigned as the root node, while the other nodes are linked to the root node through shortest route path. Next, a Spatial Association-based Data Collection is performed with the objective of improving the network lifetime. A Spatial Associated Data Collection using probability measure is performed to obtain the spatial associated value, reducing the computational complexity during data collection and extending network lifetime. With this, the EST-SADA minimizes the energy consumption during data transmission extending the network lifetime and performs experimental evaluation on factors such as packet delivery ratio, energy consumption and network lifetime. Experimental analysis shows that the EST-SADA is able to reduce the energy consumption during transmission by 10% and extend the network lifetime by 30. 45% compared to the state-of-the-art works.
