Phonetics and Phonology has been the part and parcel of English language.
Effective Communication is an imminent need for every individual. Engineering
graduates under mechanical and Civil department have to undergo a lot of stress
during Interviews and Group discussions due to communicative breakdowns. Training
programs on Spoken English, Interview training, Placement paper discussion are the
processes which are carried out in most of the colleges during the 3rd and 4th year of
the course but more than 60 percent of the students struggle due to lack of competitive
answering. This results in the increase of unemployed engineering graduates.
Graduates are then forced to take up a profession which also asks for Effective
communication so they end up training themselves for the rest of their career wasting
3 to 5 years. We present certain solutions which could be taken affront in the career
of any engineer during his first year in college. Communicative drills to enhance their
L2 pronunciation and communication, Phonetics and phonology to teach the efficiency of the language, Importance of Phonetics which will enhance their answering ability and also increase their self confidence. The methodologies which we present here are practically experimented and have produced fruitful results in both schools and colleges especially for engineering graduates. We have tried to point
down certain Problems faced by L2 learners and worked out solutions to solve these
problems
