Abstract

Maximising the production of an organization's most valuable asset—its people—in service of its overarching mission is the primary focus of human resource management, a crucial component of effective business strategy. When pandemics like COVID-19 and other comparable external events had the same impact on at least some of an organization's personnel, this department's traditionally supporting function became paramount. Worker morale plummets. Adapting to the altered mode of operation becomes more difficult. Distractions abound in the home environment, reducing productivity. In order to achieve its goals, the HR department has the difficult job of monitoring, aligning, inspiring, engaging, and producing outcomes. In order to maintain employee engagement in the face of the new normal, this conceptual paper analyses the problem, prescribes tools, and suggests corrective steps. It then goes on to highlight the discouraging elements and how they affect the outcomes.
