Abstract

In the present study ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of leaves of Tecomaria capensis were screened for analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer activity. The analgesic activity was performed by two thermal models. One is hot plate method and another one is tail flick method. The two extracts of Tecomaria capensis leaves have showed analgesic activity in both methods. The anti-inflammatory activity was investigated by two methods. One is carrageenan induced paw edema method (in-vivo) and other is HRBC stabilization method (in-vitro). In both methods ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts showed anti-inflammatory activity. Anti-ulcer activity was done by aspirin induced method. In this, various biochemical parameters like ulcer index, gastric juice, pH, free acidity, total acidity and percentage protection has been investigated. Further, histopathological studies have also been examined. Ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts have showed anti-ulcer activity. In all the activities ethyl acetate showed a comparable activity to that of standard.
