Abstract

No previous infrastructure is required to rapidly deploy mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). Various applications rely on them, such as medical, Army. MANETs deployed on large-scale networks containing many nodes pose new challenges. Several clustering algorithms have been developed. The clustering algorithms allow for the organization of a nodes into groups are called clusters, allowing for Tree Structure. Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) require Clustering to guarantee the basic performance requirements, such as throughput and delay, even with movement of nodes and huge number of terminals. There are many approaches for ad hoc clustering, and each of these approaches typically focuses on different performance metrics. For example, in mobile ad hoc networks, Clustering plays an essential role in developing resource management and network speed (routing delay, bandwidth consumption, and throughput). Finally, an analysis of some existing MANET clustering approaches recently published in literature is present in this paper. A description of the mechanisms, an assessment of their performance, and the merits and demerits of each clustering scheme were present in this survey.
