Abstract

With the rise of online learning in recent years, cybersecurity has become a crucial issue in education. In this study, we examined the cybersecurity knowledge of students from Shanghai Giao Tong University through online learning. Our findings indicate that despite the prevalence of cyberattacks worldwide, the students showed a lack of awareness about cybersecurity and its consequences. To assess their knowledge, we evaluated their understanding of harmful programs, passcode confidentiality, and social media privacy. Unfortunately, the results revealed that the student's knowledge of cybersecurity was insufficient, considering that we are in an era where everything is connected to the internet, including distance learning. Our subsequent research has led us to conclude that cybersecurity training is necessary for students to make the most of the internet and avoid becoming victims of cyberattacks. This training should focus on how to use the internet safely and responsibly, including how to identify and prevent phishing scams, how to create strong passwords, and how to secure personal data on social media. We believe that incorporating cybersecurity education into the curriculum of higher education institutions is essential to prepare students for the realities of the digital world. As we continue to rely on technology for education, work, and communication, cybersecurity will become increasingly critical for individuals and organizations. By providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves online, we can ensure a safer and more secure online environment for everyone.
