Abstract

Waste management has become an important concern in growing towns such as Kumbakonam, where population growth, tourism and religious activities contribute to increasing waste generation. This study looks at how circular economy practices can be used to improve waste management in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. It focuses on waste segregation, recycling, composting, biomethanation and the reuse of temple and other organic waste. The study also examines the scope for converting waste into useful products and income-generating activities. Based on the existing situation, it suggests a practical circular economy approach involving local communities, municipal authorities, temples and other stakeholders to promote cleaner surroundings, better resource use and sustainable development.
