OPTIMIZING COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS FOR PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS

This study critically evaluates pharmaceutical cold chain logistics operations with a clear focus
on execution-level challenges that directly influence performance outcomes. It investigates key
operational dimensions temperature monitoring technology, infrastructure quality, process
efficiency, and human resource competency and examines how these factors collectively shape
cold chain performance through supply chain visibility and risk control. Primary data were
collected from 50 employees of T.S. India Logistics Solutions using a structured questionnaire
and analysed using SPSS Version 27 through descriptive statistics, reliability testing
(Cronbach’s alpha), Pearson correlation, one-way ANOVA, and hypothesis testing. The
findings reveal a clear pattern: while technological systems and physical infrastructure are
largely reliable and well established, consistent performance is weakened by execution gaps,
particularly in delayed responses to temperature deviations, inefficiencies during transit
handoffs, and weak inter-functional coordination. These gaps increase the risk of temperature
excursions and reduce overall operational precision. The study establishes that cold chain
success is not defined by system availability, but by how effectively those systems are executed
in real-time operations. It concludes that strengthening response discipline, enforcing
standardized procedures, and enhancing workforce capability are essential to achieving
consistent reliability, minimizing risk, and safeguarding pharmaceutical product integrity
across the entire supply chain.
