Abstract
Rural development is a multidimensional process aimed at
improving the economic, social, and environmental conditions of rural communities. This chapter examines the evolution of rural development from the past to the present and explores future prospects and strategies. In the early stages, rural development mainly focused on agriculture, land reforms, and poverty reduction. During the post-independence period, several programmed such as community development initiatives, cooperative movements, and the Green Revolution contributed to agricultural growth and rural transformation. Over time, the concept expanded to include education, healthcare, infrastructure development, women empowerment, employment generation, and
environmental sustainability.
