Abstract

Both the clinicians and the users have been reported to struggle with the challenge of identifying effective electronic health (eHealth) tools due to the poor performance of the digital health market. The question of whether chatbots actually have the capability of making patient adherence better, or whether they are merely an addition in eHealth solutions, exists. A systematic search on articles from 2015 to 2025 in databases including PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest exploring factors influencing the patient involvement in health chatbots. Only 9 studies were included in the review after removing the duplicated articles and applying a stringent inclusion criterion. The thematic analysis provided four major factors that shape user interaction with health conversational AI. The scarcity of studies also points to the necessity of further investigation of the eHealth chatbot's effectiveness, as there are insufficient scientific findings to support its effectiveness.
