Abstract
Abstract
The rapid digitization of Human
Resource Management (HRM) has
transformed performance management
from an annual evaluation process into a
dynamic, continuous, and data-driven
system. Central to this transformation are
digital feedback tools—platforms that
enable real-time, multidirectional
communication between employees,
managers, and teams. These systems
promise improved agility, engagement, and
developmental transparency; yet, their
widespread adoption also introduces
significant human and ethical challenges.
This chapter critically examines the
human and ethical dimensions of digital
feedback tools, focusing on issues such as
digital surveillance, feedback anxiety,
privacy, and algorithmic bias. Drawing on
empirical and conceptual literature, it
explores how the integration of real-time
analytics and artificial intelligence (AI)
into performance monitoring reshapes
employee behavior, trust, and workplace
relationships. The chapter also analyzes
how organizations can uphold ethical
standards, psychological safety, and
fairness while leveraging continuous
feedback technologies. Using conceptual
frameworks and case illustrations from
global firms, it argues that digital feedback
tools, when ethically designed and
implemented, can foster a culture of trust
and growth—but when misused, they risk
eroding autonomy, morale, and authenticity
in employee engagement.
