Abstract

Organic food adoption in India has gained significant attention in recent years due to increasing awareness of health, environmental sustainability, and human well-being. The growing concerns regarding the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and preservatives in conventional agriculture have encouraged consumers to shift toward organic food products. This study examines the adoption of organic food in India by analyzing its impact on health, environmental sustainability, and human development outcomes. Organic foods are widely perceived as safer, more nutritious, and environmentally friendly, contributing to improved public health and ecological balance. The study highlights how organic farming practices reduce soil degradation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss while promoting sustainable agricultural development. Furthermore, the research explores the socio-economic dimensions of organic food adoption, including consumer awareness, affordability, accessibility, and government initiatives supporting organic agriculture in India. Human development outcomes such as improved quality of life, better nutrition, rural employment generation, and sustainable livelihoods are also discussed. Despite the growing popularity of organic products, challenges such as higher prices, limited market availability, lack of certification awareness, and inadequate infrastructure continue to hinder widespread adoption. The study concludes that strengthening policy support, consumer education, and sustainable agricultural practices can enhance organic food adoption and contribute to long-term health and environmental benefits in India.
