Abstract
In India most of the telecom towers experience various problems such as
poor voltage regulation, less load factor, and frequent interruptions in power supply.
Because of the unpredictable nature of renewable energy sources, these systems have
to be combined together with proper energy storage systems. In this work, stand-
alone solar–wind hybrid renewable energy system with battery storage systems are
considered to supply uninterrupted power to rural telecom. Conventional systems use
individual DC–DC power converters for each renewable energy source which leads
to increase in component count, complex topology, and reduced efficiency. This work
proposes a single integrated cuk-luo DC–DC converter which is used to connect solar
and wind sources with the point of common coupling (PCC). The components used
in the proposed cuk-luo DC–DC converter are analysed using MATLAB/Simulink
platform, and the losses of each component are calculated. It was found that the
proposed system has the efficiency of 92.25%.
