Abstract
Eco-criticism is an interdisciplinary field of study that examines the relationship between
literature, culture, and the natural environment. It emerged in the 1990s as a response to the growing
concern over the environmental crisis and the need for a more sustainable way of life.At its core,
eco-criticism is concerned with the representation of nature in literature and the ways in which
literature reflects and shapes our understanding of the environment. It explores the ways in which
writers use language to create meaning about nature, and how these meanings are influenced by
cultural, social, and historical contexts. Eco-critics examine a wide range of literary genres, from
poetry to fiction to non-fiction, and they may also analyze visual art, film, and other forms of cultural
expression. They consider how literary works depict the natural world and the relationships between
humans and the environment, and they may also investigate the political, economic, and ethical dimensions of these relationships. Overall, eco-criticism seeks to understand and address the complex relationships between culture and nature, and to promote sustainable and equitable ways of
living. It has become an important field of study in the humanities and social sciences, as scholars and activists alike address the environmental challenges facing our world today.
