Abstract

Achievement of Optimum Characteristics of Friction Stir Welded Joints with Varied Process Parameters S.D. Kumar R. Pugazhenthi

The main objective of this research is to optimise the friction stir welding (FSW) parameters to produce FSW joints with the highest strength possible. This research successfully connects two dissimilar aluminium alloys of grades AA 7075 and AA 6063, each 6 mm thick, using the convex shoulder-flat bottom pin tool. Since a number of factors affect the strength and quality of FSW joint, it is vital to optimise the weld parameters to obtain the high strength joint quality. The experiments L27 orthogonal array design takes Taguchi approaches into account. To get the ideal ultimate tensile test, maximum yield strength, elongation and impact strength, mechanical tests are performed on the welded workpiece. Fracture pictures are also evaluated with the use of scanning electron microscope. Additionally, the Multi-Objective Optimization Ratio Analysis (MOORA) approach is used to obtain the ideal parameter.
