An importance of remote sensing applications and the need required for the study on earth science, geography and related military based applications, hyperspectral image and its data have become significant. Earlier multispectral remote sensing methods were more common and this involves acquiring the near and short wave infrared images pertaining to broad wavelength patterns. But the limitation of multispectral imaging is that it lacks in direct identification and hence is the growth of hyperspectral imaging that performs identification and material characterization. These hyperspectral imaging process is capable of attaining images over hundreds of neighboring spectral bands. It delivers a comprehensive analysis of the literature for people who are professionals and students interested in learning more about the area. The final section of this survey is given to defining the performance evaluation problem and the datasets that are frequently used for it. It also discusses any issues to resolve and proposes directions for further research.
