The smart city implementation has become a more popular concept nowadays to enhance the cities and urban areas with the help of the latest IT and communication methods. In recent years, many research and analysis have been carried out to provide a thorough understanding of implementation methods and the pros and cons of various technology concepts. This helps the government and private sectors to make a better design for smart city implementation. Internet-of-Things (IoT) sensors and devices are the basic and mandatory elements for the smart city implementation. Most importantly, self-powered or autonomous wireless IoT devices increase the efficiency and accuracy of the data to create a hassle-free smart city. In this chapter, the ideology behind self-powered wireless sensors, their use cases, and their applications are discussed.
