Abstract

Smart energy meter plays a vital role in the smart grid system. Presently, the data from the smart energy meter is huge and data management is essential for future research. Managing the smart energy meter data in the cloud involves making strategic decisions on data storage, data processing, and analysis. Cloud platforms offer different services like Hadoop-based solutions, SQL databases, HBase, and NoSQL database that can be leveraged for this purpose. This chapter makes an abstract comparison of these technologies in the context of smart energy data management in the cloud. The choice between Hadoop, SQL databases, and HBase in the cloud depends on the specific use case which includes processing requirements, data volume, query patterns, and real-time to batch processing needs. It is also needed to consider the different factors like performance, scalability, data modeling, and existing cloud platform's capacity while designing the smart meter data management in the cloud.
