Abstract

The acrylate monomer 4-acryloyloxyphenyl-4'-fluorostyryl ketone containing a free radical polymerizable group and a photocrosslinkable group was synthesized. A free radical solution polymerization technique was used for synthesizing homopolymer in ethyl methyl ketone and benzoyl peroxide as a free radical initiator at 70°C. The structure of newly synthesized monomer and homopolymer were confirmed by different spectroscopic techniques. The number and weight average molecular weight of the polymer was determined by gel permeation chromatography. The thermal properties of the photo reactive polymer were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis in air and differential scanning calorimetry under nitrogen atmosphere. The photocrosslinking property of the homopolymer sample was examined using the solvent method. The effect of solvent and photo sensitizer on the rate of photo cross linking of the new photo responsive polymer was evaluated.
