Abstract

A simple and eco-friendly approach is proposed for synthesizing fluorescent carbon dots
(CDs) using Trianthema portulacastrum as a sustainable carbon source. The CDs are expected to
exhibit strong fluorescence, high stability, and a significant quantum yield. Their application as a
selective and sensitive fluorescent sensor for metal ion detection will be explored based on
fluorescence quenching mechanisms. The sensor is anticipated to achieve a low detection limit and a
broad linear detection range. Practical applicability will be validated in real water samples and
biological imaging studies. Cytotoxicity assessments will ensure their suitability for bioanalytical
applications. Structural and functional properties of CDs will be optimized for enhanced selectivity
and sensitivity. This study aims to establish Trianthema portulacastrum-derived CDs as a promising
nanomaterial for environmental monitoring and biomedical research. Future investigations will focus
on extending their application to various metal ions and advanced imaging techniques.
