Abstract

Secure data transfer is more important than ever as digital communication grows more and more ingrained in everyday life and vital infrastructure. Even though they are strong now, traditional cryptography systems are at risk from the new danger posed by quantum computing. By utilizing the basic ideas of quantum mechanics, quantum cryptography—in particular, Quantum Key Distribution, or QKD—offers a revolutionary method of secure communication. In contrast to classical encryption, quantum cryptography ensures that any effort at eavesdropping is identifiable by basing security on the rules of physics rather than computing complexity. The fundamental ideas of quantum cryptography, the operation of QKD protocols such as BB84, practical uses, present difficulties, and its potential to completely transform cybersecurity are all covered in this article. Quantum cryptography appears as a possible answer for the future of secure communication as we stand on the precipice of a quantum revolution.
