Abstract

This study examines the environmental concerns linked to conventional
concrete production by exploring the feasibility of utilizing Saw Dust Ash
(SDA) as a partial replacement for cement in the manufacture of concrete
paver blocks. Although concrete continues to be the most widely used
construction material worldwide, its cement component is a major
contributor to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and the depletion of natural
resources. Saw dust ash, produced through the controlled combustion of
sawmill waste, possesses silica-rich pozzolanic characteristics that make it
a potential supplementary cementitious material. The incorporation of this
agro-industrial byproduct into concrete not only supports sustainable
construction practices but also helps address waste disposal problems
associated with sawmill residues. Furthermore, the use of SDA has the
potential to reduce the environmental footprint of construction materials
while maintaining the required strength and durability of concrete paver
blocks.
