Abstract
Agriculture has undergone a significant evolution, which progressing from manual and subsistence farming (Agriculture
1.0) to the high-tech interconnected systems of agriculture 5.0. Each phase of development reflects humanity's efforts to
meet out the food requirements of a growing population and address environmental challenges through innovation.
Agriculture 5.0 integrates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT) and
blockchain to optimize the productivity, sustainability and environmental stewardship. By leveraging precision tools like
IoT-enabled sensors, remote sensing and big data analytics, it provides solutions to critical agricultural issues, including
resource scarcity, climate change and food security. The adoption of robotics, variable rate technology (VRT) and smart
irrigation ensures resource efficiency with minimum negative impacts on the environment. Despite its promise, Agriculture
5.0 faces challenges such as cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the technological adoption gap, requiring robust security measures, proactive policies and capacity building. This review explores the transition across different phases of agricultural evolution, key innovations of Agriculture 5.0, its applications, challenges and demonstrates its potential to revolutionize global farming practices.
