Abstract
The accelerating digitalization of work, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and the evolution toward human–machine collaboration are redefining the principles
and practices of Human Resource Management (HRM). As organizations transition from the data-driven efficiency
of Industry 4.0 to the human-centric synergy of Industry 5.0, HRM stands at the epicenter of strategic transformation. This chapter provides a futurist and
integrative analysis of the next wave of
disruption in Digital HRM. Drawing upon
theories including Sociotechnical Systems
Theory (Trist & Emery, 1951), Strategic
Human Capital Theory (Becker, 1964),
Complex Adaptive Systems Theory
(Holland, 1995), and Digital Foresight
Frameworks (Rohrbeck, 2010), it examines
emerging global trends and their
implications for organizational design,
leadership, ethics, and workforce
capability. The chapter introduces the Digital
HRM Futures Framework (DHRMF²)—a
holistic model for anticipating, navigating,
and shaping the future of HRM across five
transformation domains: AI and
Automation, Human Experience, Workforce Agility, Digital Ethics, and Sustainable Futures.
By synthesizing insights from
preceding chapters, it argues that the future
of HRM will not be defined by technology
alone but by how organizations humanize
digital transformation—embedding
empathy, trust, and inclusivity into digital
ecosystems.
