THE ROLE OF MUSIC IN FILMS AND THE INFLUENCE OF MUSIC ON THE AUDIENCE'S EMOTIONS. EMOTION IN A MOVIE AND HOW MUSIC AFFECTS IT

Among a film's many aspects,
music plays a crucial role as it
determines how a film scene is
perceived, understood, and remembered. This
paper discusses how music can affect
audience emotions, particularly with respect
to background music, musical themes, and
sound design. This paper describes the effects
that these aspects of film-music scholarship
have on the emotional meaning, through a
qualitative analysis of film-music.
It is evident in the discussion that
music can be used to increase the tension,
elicit empathy, create anticipation, aid the
story development, and even affect the
appearance of the visual performance. It is
proposed that film music – in addition to a
decorative role – is a language of the film,
which guides the attention, and focuses the
emotional reaction. Based on the literature I
have studied, the fact that the viewer is more
immersed appears to be due to their
expectations that this is the right fit,
association, and synchronizing with the
image, but ultimately, overuse and not fitting
in properly can have the opposite effect. The
study concludes that the music in the film can
produce audience emotion in the film, not
only the music, but also along with the image
and context in the film. These include film
music and the audience's response to the
music: background score, sound design, and
cinema, and the viewers' reaction to that.
