Abstract

The introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) marks a significant transformation in the Indian criminal justice system. These new criminal laws, implemented from July 1, 2024, replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. The primary objective of these reforms is to modernize the legal framework, strengthen justice delivery, promote transparency, and align criminal laws with contemporary social and technological developments.

This study explores the impact of the new criminal laws on the Indian legal system by analyzing their objectives, key provisions, and practical implications. The research focuses on major reforms such as the inclusion of digital evidence, forensic investigation, community service as punishment for minor offences, stricter provisions against organized crime and terrorism, victim-centric justice, and the use of technology in criminal procedures. The study also examines how these reforms aim to ensure speedy trials, efficient investigation, and improved access to justice
