Abstract
The proposed IoT-Based System for Real-Time Manhole Gas Toxicity and Worker Presence Monitoring is designed to enhance the safety of sanitation workers by continuously monitoring hazardous environmental conditions inside manholes. The system integrates gas sensors, IoT communication modules, and worker detection mechanisms to identify the presence of toxic gases such as methane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia in real time. Additionally, the system detects worker entry and movement within the manhole using motion or proximity sensors to ensure operational safety and emergency response readiness. The collected data is transmitted to a cloud or monitoring station through IoT technology, enabling instant alerts and notifications when dangerous gas levels or abnormal conditions are detected. The proposed solution minimizes health risks, prevents accidents, improves worker safety, and supports smart city sanitation management through automated monitoring and real-time data analysis.
