Abstract

Quadriplegia is a severe form of paralysis that affects the motor functions, causing problems in ability to move independently. Traditional manual and electric wheel chair failed to meet the specific need of people with quadriplegia, requiring developments for quadriplegia patient. Facial EMGbased mobilization device for quadriplegia that helps the individual with mobility assistance on their own, highlighting the importance of finding a new solution for the patient. This paper focuses on Facial EMG acquisition, signal processing and feature extraction using wavelet. Facial EMG signals are acquired and given as input for filtering process. These processed signals are then used as input functions for the simulation in Simulink, which include components such as PID controller, torque, torque source, shaft and common gear assembly. This paper aims to create a simulated model for a fully operational and independent control wheel chair that could improve the quality of life for quadriplegic patient using facial EMG as input. This paper aims to provide a simpler and more effective method for controlling movement and to demonstrate the capacity to transform the use of technological advancement in restoration.
