Abstract

This study investigates the role of organizational factors in contributing to occupational stress among nurses in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Stress is defined as the physical, psychological, and behavioral response to demanding work environments and organizational pressures. The research focuses on occupational stressors such as work overload, role ambiguity, poor organizational climate, inadequate staffing, long work hours, lack of social support, and career development issues affecting nurses. A descriptive research design was adopted using simple random sampling, and primary data were collected from 40 nurses. Statistical tools including percentage analysis and chi-square tests were applied. The findings reveal that the majority of nurses experience medium levels of occupational stress. Significant associations were found between occupational stress and demographic variables such as living place, marital status, age, and experience level. The study concludes that organizational stress management interventions and supportive workplace practices are essential for improving nurses’ well-being and reducing occupational stress.
