Abstract

National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) is a pioneering initiative of government of India for transforming the lives of urban poor. NULM has been implemented in Kerala through the vehicle of Kudumbashree as a nodal agency for implementation. This article has come out of the study focusing on state-wide secondary data regarding the performance of NULM along with the case studies of three corporations such as Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode. The study indicates that NULM implementation in Kerala has made spectacular achievements are more visible in the areas of self-employment trainings, formation of SHGs and initiation of self-employment units. However, it is worth mentioning that such visible results are lacking in the areas welfare measure for street vendors and in building shelters for urban poor. Article highlights that more concerted efforts are required in these domains.
