Abstract

Writing is a systematic process of recording speech sounds through a symbol system (alphabets). In both an individual’s life and in the life of mankind, writing comes after speech. It is a learned skill not an acquired one. Writing also serves to standardize a language. Spoken language is prone to variations from one individual to another, or from one regional (idiolect) group to another (dialect). Spoken ideas, narrated events and experiences are momentary happenings. But the written form is a single one. Hence, it requires training in the art of writing i.e. both how to write words and how to create meanings? So as to become familiar with the verbal communication completely and also for accomplishing the ability, this may be basic to ace the four aptitudes like Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The present paper attempts to understand the problems of learner’s difficulties in the concepts of writing with an intension to develop instructional strategies. The need of studying about the difficulties of learners in writing is felt as it is a common problem in most of the cases. Though there is a difficulty in the communicating pattern to express the ideas, even it is not possible for most of the students to present it in the written form also. It is much more disconcerting to note that even after ten to twelve years of learning the language in English medium schools, the students do not equip to impart through composed talk skillfully and unmistakably. So there is definitely a need to focus more on writing skills and learn the craft of drafting the text in a formal format and to make it as a meaningful passage.
