A real‐time health monitoring system can store a patient's basic health parameters. The data can be made available to a medical practitioner as an alert and for monitoring by multiple means of communication. At present, healthcare systems exist with single mode communication option – usually either in GSM or data access on a web application. The proposed health monitoring system enhances healthcare delivery by communicating multiplexed data over three modes – BLE (mobile application), GSM (messaging services) and Wi‐Fi (internet). The cloud as well as IoT (internet of things) and the mobile technologies make it easier to monitor patients’ health conditions by sharing the health information with healthcare teams such as doctors, nurses and specialists. The last decade has witnessed extensive research in the field of healthcare services and their technological upgradation. To be more specific, the IoT has shown potential application in connecting various medical devices, sensors, and healthcare professionals to provide quality medical services remotely. This has improved patient safety, reduced healthcare costs, enhanced the accessibility of healthcare services, and increased operational efficiency in the healthcare industry. This chapter gives an up‐to‐date summary of the potential healthcare applications of internet of things (IoT)/healthcare internet of things (HIoT)‐based technologies. Herein, the advancement of the application of the HIoT has been reported from the perspective of enabling technologies, healthcare services, and applications to solve various healthcare issues. Moreover, potential challenges and issues in the HIoT system are also discussed. In short, the current chapter provides a comprehensive source of information regarding the different fields of application of HIoT with the intention of helping future researchers who are interested in working towards making advancements in the field gain greater insight into the topic.
