Abstract

In this research work, we reported the antimicrobial activity of sol-gel synthesis of GdMnO3–GdMn2O5 composite against two different bacterial strains, such as Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative), for the first time. Zone of inhibition values are measured to be 20 and 25 mm, respectively, for S. aureus and E. coli. In addition, the optical characteristics of the composite have been tested through UV-visible spectrum studies. A UV-visible spectrum study of the composite has found increased optical absorption toward the visible region with increasing wavelength from 300 to 800 nm. A sharp peak has been noticed at 403 nm, which indicates the synthesized composite formation of narrow optical band gap material. The optical band gap value of the aforementioned composite is found to be 3.07 eV from the absorption spectrum study.
