Abstract

Drug trafficking remains one of the most pervasive and financially powerful forms of
transnational organised crime, generating annual revenues estimated between $400–
500 billion. This article presents a comparative analysis of drug trafficking across
three jurisdictions — the United States, Mexico, and India — each occupying a
distinct yet interconnected position in the global narcotics network. Drawing on
doctrinal legal analysis, international conventions, judicial decisions, and socio-legal
research, the study examines historical evolution, domestic and international legal
frameworks, institutional corruption, and the socioeconomic consequences of drug
trafficking. The article concludes that the dominant enforcement paradigm has failed
across all three jurisdictions, and advocates for a rightsbased, public-health-oriented
approach.
