Abstract
Mining is one of the most hazardous industries, exposing workers to toxic gases, poor air quality, and low-visibility environments. To enhance miner safety, we have developed a prototype of smart miner’s safety helmet equipped with an MQ-2 gas sensor, humidity sensor, and an automaticLED lighting system. The gas sensor detects carbon monoxide (CO) and flammable gases, triggering an alarm when dangerous levels are detected. The humidity sensor monitorsenvironmental conditions to help assess potential risks underground. Additionally, a darknessdetection system automatically activates LED strip lights in low-light conditions, improving visibilityin tunnels and deep mining areas. This prototype is powered by Node MCU ESP8266, enablingreal-time monitoring and alerting. By integrating IoT technology and sensor-based automation, thishelmet aims to provide early warnings and enhance worker safety in mining operations. The systemis designed to be lightweight, efficient, and scalable for future enhancements.
