Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition marked by progressive loss of neuronal function, memory impairment, and cognitive decline. Due to the aging population, it is the most prevalent cause of dementia globally and a significant public health concern. One of the major obstacles in treating AD is the Blood–Brain Barrier, which restricts the entry of many therapeutic agents into brain tissue.
Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems have emerged as a promising strategy to overcome this barrier. Various nanocarriers, including lipid nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, and dendrimers, can enhance drug stability, improve bioavailability, and facilitate targeted delivery to diseased brain regions. These systems offer significant potential to improve therapeutic outcomes while minimizing systemic adverse effects. This chapter discusses recent advances in nanoparticle-based approaches for crossing the blood–brain barrier and their potential role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease
