Abstract
This article explores the reform of criminal jurisprudence in the context of the contemporary globalized world, using narrative theory to signify the move from micronarratives to metanarratives by bringing technology into this narrative transformation. We examine how the viral spread of individual criminal cases (micronarratives) has transformative implications for the progression and shaping of the more general legal processes (metanarratives), and how technology plays a role as both the facilitator and the connector. This study examines how digital culture is transforming the evidentiary basis of criminal justice, and the very nature of crime itself. Drawing on extensive comparative research on the place of technology in criminal justice systems globally, this article shows how technology helps link local incidents of crime to global justice systems now fostering unparalleled levels of international cooperation even as it raises crucial issues surrounding privacy, sovereignty, and digital rights. The study finds that, with the rapid increase in the integration of technology and criminal justice, it is essential to transform traditional jurisprudential thinking from the ground up in order to account for features such as cybercrimes, authentication of digital evidence, and transnational legal assistance.
