Abstract

Egg Plant Peel extract reinforced chitosan composite films were
prepared using the solution cast method. The morphology, tensile
strength, elongation, film transparency and barrier property of the
films were measured using SEM, Universal tensile machine, Water
vapour permeability respectively. An increase in tensile strength,
elongation, transparency and a decrease in WVP values were
observed for the peel extract incorporated composite films when
compared to the parent chitosan film. This may be due to presence of
extract that plays a vital role in improving the nature and properties
of the chitosan film and makes way to act as an ideal material for food
packaging application.
