Abstract

Digital innovation has transformed social protection delivery in India, offering both opportunities and challenges. This paper examines the impact of initiatives like Aadhaar, Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), and digital health platforms on social protections. While digital tools have enhanced efficiency, reduced leakages, and expanded coverage, they also risk excluding marginalized groups due to digital divides, data privacy concerns, and inadequate last-mile connectivity. Analyzing key schemes like PM-JAY and PDS, the study highlights how digital innovation can strengthen social protections when paired with inclusive design, robust data governance, and literacy programs. The paper concludes with policy recommendations to ensure digital social protections are equitable, secure, and accessible to all Indians.
