Abstract
Geographical Indications have evolved as significant intellectual property tools that extend beyond product protection to fostering socio-economic development and cultural preservation. However, their potential as a tool of social inclusion remains underexplored. This study examines how GIs can empower marginalized communities and advance gender equity by recognising traditional knowledge systems and community based production practices. By situating Gls within the broader discourse of social economic rights, the paper highlights their role in enhancing visibility, market access, and collective bargaining power for women artisans, indigenous producers and other vulnerable groups. Through doctrinal analysis and case studies, the research investigates whether Gls can move beyond mere economic protection to become vehicles of social justice. The findings suggest that inclusive Gi frameworks when supported by participatory governance and equitable benefit sharing can challenge structural in equalities and foster sustainable development
