Abstract
Social justice refers to the principle of ensuring fairness equality and dignity for all individuals in society. It aims to eliminate discrimination reduce inequalities and provide equal opportunities regardless of caste class gender religion or economic status. In the Indian context social justice is deeply rooted in the Constitution particularly through Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles of State Policy which seek to promote equality and protect marginalized community
Historically Indian society has been characterized by social hierarchies such as the caste system leading to exclusion and oppression of certain groups. To address these inequalities the State has introduced various legal and policy measures including reservation policies welfare schemes and protective legislation for Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes women and other disadvantaged groups.
Activism has become more interconnected, enabling individuals and communities to raise awareness, mobilize support, and advocate for systemic change.
Social justice is closely linked with concepts such as equality before law equal protection of laws and the right to live with dignity. It also involves ensuring access to basic necessities such as education healthcare employment and social security. The judiciary plays a vital role in promoting social justice by interpreting laws in a manner that protects human rights and advances equality.
Despite significant progress, challenges such as poverty, discrimination, unemployment, and lack of access to resources continue to hinder the realization of social justice. Therefore, continuous efforts are required to strengthen institutions, implement laws effectively, and promote inclusive development.
