Abstract:

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series is a fantastic novel, classified under either Fantasy or Children’s Literature. It is centred on the universal and timeless theme of virtue versus vice. The novels in the Series are embodiments of profound moral values. The characters, appearing throughout the Series are characterized according to their choices and display of their actions and reactions to the circumstances. Rowling has also dealt with racism, slavery and intolerance, by weaving real-world societal analyses into the issues of the magical world. 

The present study attempts to explore the complex ethical dilemmas, conflicts and redemption undergone by the characters in Harry Potter Series. The narrative teaches the fundamental moral lesson that choices define human beings than their inherent abilities. Rowling handles the binary archetypes that define the line between the characters of virtue and vice. In fact, through her skill in delineation of characters, she proves that there is good and bad nature in every individual and only the actions encountered by them decides and defines them. The study reveals the truth that the ultimate ethical value exhibited in Harry Potter Series is love, which is the deepest form of human sacrifice and selflessness.
